Reaching out, gently
You don’t need perfect words
Many people hesitate because they don’t know how to begin, or worry they’ll be told what to do. Here is what actually happens when you reach out:
An advocate listens first. You share only what you want to share — you don’t even have to give your name.
No one will pressure you to leave or to make any decision before you’re ready. Advocates help you think through safety, whatever your next step looks like.
Calls are confidential, and help is available whether the abuse is physical, emotional, financial, or controlling — and whether it began recently or years ago.
You can call for someone else, too. If you’re worried about a friend, a sister, or a daughter, advocates will help you support her well.
Faith and professional help belong together
Grace & Courage Co is a Christian platform, and we believe prayer matters. But prayer is never a replacement for a trained advocate, a safety plan, or a counselor — and reaching out for professional help is not a failure of faith.
Support from every organization on this page is offered whatever you believe, including if you don’t share the Christian faith. You will never be asked to earn help by accepting ours.
“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me.’”

About Grace & Courage Co
Grace & Courage Co — Faith After Abuse — is a Christian educational and advocacy platform, and a ministry of The Healing Table Collective: a place to think carefully about Scripture, faith, and safety, together. We explore the women of the Bible, how Scripture has been interpreted, and how churches can become safer communities.
This page is maintained by Doris, a survivor studying theology and building The Healing Table Collective — a ministry in the making, devoted to survivor support, education, advocacy, and connections to qualified professionals.
Grace & Courage Co is an educational ministry, not a counseling service: Doris is not a licensed therapist, counselor, or certified advocate. For support, please reach out to the trained advocates listed above — they are the right first call, day or night.
